Strategic Planning

Is the process of matching your business’s capabilities within the environment you operate.

Do you know where you are now, do you know where you want to be?

Strategy means choosing the right actions to ensure your future success.  You need to understand the forces that will impact your industry.  Then make clear choices about how you are going to compete.

You cannot be everything to everybody.  A real strategy forces you to make tradeoffs. Warren Buffet said “the difference between successful people and very successful people; is that very successful people say ‘NO’ to almost everything.” Steve Jobs echoes this sentiment:  “I’m as proud of what we don’t do as I am of what we do.”

Only when you have a clear strategy that is well-communicated throughout your company, will you and your staff know exactly which things to say ‘YES’ to, and which things to say ‘NO’ to.

Often owners of small businesses have no documented business plan or goals. A by product of this is that the goal posts keep moving and the business lacks the ability to realise the synergy that comes from everybody heading in the same direction.

We have been reviewing existing plans or facilitating the development of new strategic plans for over 20 years. It is a process of asking the hard questions, highlighting what assumptions are being made and making everyone involved accountable. What we have learnt is that those businesses with clear strategic plans and that commit to 90 day reviews are the only ones that will achieve.
